How To: Disable Offline Files on Windows Vista

Windows OrbFollowing on from the tutorial how to disable system system restore I will now show you how to disable offline files.

Disabling Offline Files

  • Click Start (Windows Orb)
  • Click Control Panel > Network and Internet > Offline Files
  • Click the Disable Offline Files button
  • If prompted by the UAC, Click Continue
  • You will then be prompted to restart your computer. Click Yes.

When your computer has restarted Offline Files will be disabled.

    That option DOES NOT EXIST IN VISTA on that page in the control panel.

    Hi Alvin,

    Thanks for your comment but the Disable Offline Files option does indeed appear in the Windows Vista Control Panel.

    For this tutorial I used Windows Vista Ultimate. Which version were you using?

    Followup info - you can’t disable offline files in Vista Premium as this control panel applet does not exist. Yet, it still runs mobsync.exe.
